Mission Statement Draft 1

In order to better serve the needs of Adams State University the AS&F Executive team found it was time to update our old mission statement. Our mission state that dates back at least fifteen to twenty years did function to tell us what we did but not why. In searching for a new mission statement we found they words that tell us why.

The Associated Students and Faculty promotes a strong community of leadership and communication among students, faculty, and staff. The senate advocates for student rights and represents  Adams State University by enabling opportunities, development and engagement.

  1. While evaluating the proposed mission statement, it might be a good idea to review the current mission and purpose:

    Mission:

The Associated Student & Faculty Senate was created to be a collective voice for the Adams State student and faculty body at the campus, local, and state levels.

We are advocates for clubs, organizations, students, and faculty whom pay student fees.

Our duties are to hold open forums to initiate innovation, creativity, and change to protect our education and rights as students and faculty of ASC.

As student and faculty advocates, we are geared to promote student involvement, positive student interests, and service throughout our community.

    Purpose:
■AS&F Government is comprised of an Executive Board, Legislative Branch, and Judicial Branch who work together to ensure that the voices of Adams State College are being heard. In doing so, the AS&F Government governs and assists clubs and organizations across campus in maintaining all the tools necessary to thrive as student leaders and organizations. AS&F also welcomes student concerns and questions, and acts as a liaison between the students, staff, faculty, administration, and board of trustees.

With that in mind, I wouldn’t mind knowing the driving reasons behind the proposed changes? At the very least, I would like to see something in any new mission statement as to how the organization is the voice of the student body within the academic and administrative frameworks of the university (assuming that’s still true).

Overall, I don’t think the proposed statement is bad, but I do think it could be stronger and a little more specifically targeted.
