February 13th, 2014 — Maintenance Announcements
Computing Services will be performing significant maintenance activities this week, below are the details including dates and times for the various activities:
*********Scheduled Campus Wifi Outage and maintenance tonight 2/13/14 at 6:00 PM*********
Computing Services must perform an upgrade to our campus wireless system in order to support the newer types of Access Points that we are preparing to deploy on campus. Computing Services has looked at the peak usage history of our campus wifi and have determined that an outage from 6:00 PM until roughly 7:00 PM tonight will be the least impactful based on typical campus usage. During this time, all wireless Internet and networking services will be unavailable as the upgrades are performed on the controller and all campus access points.
*********Regular Thursday Night Maintenance Activities for tonight 2/13/14*********
The following maintenance activities will take place tonight, Thursday February 13th during our normally scheduled maintenance window beginning at 9:00 PM:
Employees are urged to log out, but leave their computers turned on to assist in the patching of various software packages. The software packages that will be updated are Java, Windows, Office, Adobe Flash and Reader, Thunderbird, Firefox, iTunes, Quicktime and Pidgin. By leaving your computers turned on but logged off, this will ensure your computer receives the updates during non-work hours, and reducing any impact on your daily work activities.
All Banner systems will be unavailable from 9:00 PM until sometime around 11:00 PM as Computing Services performs required upgrades to Financial Aid and the BDMS system.
Also beginning at 9:00 PM various campus web services will be unavailable as security updates are installed and the servers are rebooted. This includes about 10 minutes of downtime for the campus main website at www.adams.edu
*******Banner Maintenance and Outage this Saturday, 2/13/14 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM*******
Finally, this Saturday beginning at roughly 8:00 AM, all Banner services will be down as we perform maintenance on our Database servers. We hope to have all services restored to the Banner systems by 10:00 if not sooner.
Computing Services thanks you for your patience and understanding as we perform these critical maintenance activities. As always, if you have any questions, please call the ASU Computing Services Helpdesk at 7741 or contact us via email at computingservices@adams.edu

December 17th, 2013 — Maintenance Announcements
With the Fall Semester completed, and to take advantage of a significantly fewer number of students and faculty on campus, Computing Services is performing several maintenance activities throughout this week. Here are the details:
-Tonight (Tuesday 12/17) there will be a brief period of downtime for the campus Microsoft servers (Active Directory and printing) at 9:00 PM as they reboot after receiving critical security upgrades. Impact to the campus is anticipated to be very low.
-Tomorrow (Wednesday 12/18), beginning at 9:00 PM, all employee email services will be down as we replace the current employee email server. During this time, employees will not be able to send or receive email. Services should be restored around 11:00 PM.

December 4th, 2013 — Security Tips
Finals are almost here! Computing Services has a few helpful hints to keep in mind as the end of the semester nears.
Back up your files!
Please remember to backup any important documents that you might need for your classes!
Always keep important files stored in multiple locations. Having the only copy of an important file only on one computer or a thumbdrive could lead to data loss if that location gets corrupted or lost.
Your campus network drive, Myfiles.adams.edu, is backed up every evening by Computing Services. For more information about using the network drive, please visit this link:
https://howto.adams.edu/index.php/Student_Network_Drive#MyFiles.adams.edu
Beware of malicious software!
Computing Services has seen several instances of fake-antivirus infections on personal computers on campus. These are malicious programs that simulate legitimate anti-virus software, but instead will cause your computer to become more infected with other forms of spyware and malware.
Another malicious program called Cryptolocker will go as far as encrypt your personal data, making it unreadable.
Be suspicious of unfamiliar applications or anything that asks for your personal information! To protect against these kinds of software, be sure to run your Windows Updates, update your AntiVirus, and update any third party applications, such as Adobe Flash or Java.
If you have any questions please contact the Computing Services Helpdesk at 19-587-7741 or email us at computingservices@adams.edu.
November 22nd, 2013 — Maintenance Announcements
Computing Services is still working through problems with our faculty and staff email server. Due to unexpected hardware issues and failures, we have decided to migrate to a new email server in order to make email stable again.
Computing Services staff will begin the migration of email data today at 5:00 PM. During this migration, faculty and staff email will be unavailable until sometime on Saturday (11/23). This is due to the large amount of data that must be transferred to the new email server.
We sincerely apologize for the major inconvenience this has caused and we really appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to resolve these continuing stability issues. We will work as quickly as possible to restore this critical campus service.
If you have any questions, please call the ASU Computing Services Helpdesk at 7741 or contact us via email at computingservices@adams.edu.
Thank you,
Computing Services
