Top Holiday Gifts of 2009

By Jesse Medina

Once again the Holiday season is upon us.  It seems to come earlier every year and this year was no exception.  So for some of us who have yet to ponder or purchase gifts for loved ones this year the following is a list of what are considered to be the top ten “hot items” of this Holiday season 2009.

Starting off the list this season is the Apple iPhone 3G 8GB Cell Phone.  Running for about $199.99, it has the current hot technology of the year with 3G wireless technology.  It also has GPS mapping and several other applications.  The iPhone also has a wide-screen iPod and a desktop web browser.  For the technology geek that wants more than just a phone, the iPod is the gift for him.

Next we have the Nintendo Wii.  The Wii is an interactive gaming system developed by Nintendo that allows the user to become physically involved in some of its games.  Nintendo has released a New Mario Bros. game for the Wii just in time for the holiday season. Its price is currently from about $169.88 to $248.95. It is very popular with the kids and also has games that appeal to the more mature gamer.

The Sony PSP 3000 hand-held console is another popular gaming system available this Christmas season.  It is considered an integrated portable entertainment system designed to handle multiple applications such as music, photo, video, and internet wirelessly. It is a great gift for those who travel a lot.  Prices range from $154.99 to $169.99.

The Apple iPod touch is a digital media player that uses multi-touch screen technology similar to the iPhone.  You can store songs, movies, pictures in bright, vivid color on the 320 by 480 pixel display.  You can also browse the web on the iPod. You can purchase the iPod for $259.99 to $369.99.

Sticking with the theme of gaming systems, the Sony Playstation 3 is the next on the list. Featuring the worlds’ most powerful processor, a Blu-ray disc drive, and wireless internet access, the PS3 is the ideal gift for the discerning gamer.  The games contain crisp, smooth high-definition graphics making them very realistic.  The online services provided by Sony allow for the downloading of movies, music, and games. It is a very impressive piece of technology. The PS3 price ranges from $289.99 to $299.99.

In conjunction with the Wii comes Wii Fit. Started by Wii Sports the Wii Fit uses a pressure-sensitive Wii Balance Board that the gamer uses to interact with the games.  The board accommodates activities like aerobics, yoga, and games. Its price ranges from $89.88 to $101.29.

Giving the Playstation 3 competition is the Microsoft Xbox 360 gaming console. Going for about $199.99, the Xbox provides internet access and the ability to download games and movies.

Nintendo DSi hand held console is also very popular this season. Going for about $150.00 it provides similar functions to the PSP hand held console, though considerably cheaper.

Another iPod is next on the list.  The Apple iPod nano Video MP3 Player is a bargain for those who don’t feel that it is necessary to spend $260 dollars on an iPod. For $139.99 allows you to down load MP3 files and movies to watch on the iPod nano.

Finally, the Nikon D90 Digital Camera rounds off the list.  The Nikon D90 fuses 12.3 megapixel image qualities with award-winning D300 technology. It has split-second shutter response and continuous shooting at up to 4.5 frames-per-second allows one to capture fast action and precise moments. A great gift for any photography buffs.

Hopefully you don’t wait until the last minute to do your Christmas shopping or all the good gifts will be gone.
