AS&F Executive Board Elections

By: Nicole Plowright

At the November 16, 2009 AS&F Senate meeting it was announced that no one turned in an election packet to run for an executive board position. With no way to suspend the constitution, elections were held on November 22 and 23 in the Student Union Building. These elections were write-in candidate elections.

At the November 30, 2009 meeting, the last senate meeting of the semester, it was shared that not only did no one try to run on the write-in ballot, but no one voted. Is this good news or bad news? It is both.

The bad news, or rather more sad news, is that it is obvious that no one can expect people to run for a position on the executive board when AS&F cannot even fill a senate; there are about ten senator positions still open. What makes them think that if there is an almost empty senate that there will be people that want to run for a higher position?

No one wants to be involved and take initiative to make the changes happen. AS&F decides where student fees go, decides club requirements, and gets to give a voice and represent the student body in important matters, like the Adams State name change. There is no better way for students to be involved and represent the school, as well as voice their opinions, than to be a part of senate.

The good news is that it is not too late to sign up to run for an executive board position. AS&F will be holding another election in the spring of 2010. Hopefully they will get a better response and more involvement in senate. If you want to see a change in where their student fees go then run for a position or join senate for the spring semester. When school starts back up it will be a new year, new semester, and maybe a new senate if people decide to step up and speak up. No one wants to be a part of a group that no one knows about or knows what they do. Be a part of the revamp of senate that is so badly needed. As students you have the power to get involved and make changes.

For questions, concerns, or if you want to be a part of senate you can email You can also stop by the senate office in the student life center and talk to a current executive board member. You can also see what the senate is up to by attending the biweekly meetings on Mondays at 6 p.m. in the Business building room 142. All information regarding meeting information can be found on the Adams State Senate Facebook page. is powered by WordPress µ | Spam prevention powered by Akismet
