Social Theory

Marx, Durkheim, Weber, Foucault, Habermas, Mead, Simmel, etc.  This course will explore all the big ideas in Sociology.  What role does religion play in society?  How has capitalism shaped modern relationships?  Do we live in a patriarchal society?  What forces enable the wealthy to dominate society?  Why do we not address environmental problems?   How is globalization shaping our lives?  These are just a few of the questions that big name Sociologists have tackled and just a few of the big questions we will tackle in this course.  Social Theory is one of my favorite courses to teach because it provides the basis, the big ideas, that set the stage for all other topics in Sociology.  The syllabus is listed below.
