Voice mail upgrade status

Overall, the voice mail upgrade went very well. It appears that all the messages and greetings were transferred from the old system to the new system. We will be monitoring it closely for the next two weeks for any issues that may arise. The old system will be kept on line and operational for the next week. If everything is stable we will shut the old system down.

There is, however, one significant change that comes as a result of the upgrade. During the installation process we found a system error in the old version that required users to enter 9+ their extension when checking voice mail from that extension. In the new system we were able to correct this error. So now, when checking your voice mail form your extension you simply need to enter in your password. If you are checking voice mail messages from a different campus extension or from off campus you will need to enter 9 and the extension.

There are some new features that came with the new voice mail package. We will be testing these for compatibility with our current setup and hopefully we can offer some of them to ASC voice mail subscribers.

Thank you,

ASC Employee Voice Mail Upgrade Today (2/21/12)

This is the final reminder that the ASC Employee Voice Mail system will be down today from 1:00 PM until roughly 6:00 PM for an urgent upgrade.

We will transfer all the voice mail boxes and their messages to the new system.  It is our goal to have total transparency from the old system to the new system.  We do ask that employees take a few minutes to  clean out their voice mail boxes of any old or un-needed messages. This will help reduce the amount of data transferred into the new system. At this point we do not anticipate any changes to the functionality of the new system.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the ASC Computing Services Help Desk at x7741 or via email at asccompserv@adams.edu

Thank you!

Computing Services Maintenance for Thursday, February 16th, 2012

The following maintenance activities will take place during our normally schedule maintenance window beginning at 9 PM:

  • Security updates will be installed on the campus DNS servers, which requires the servers to be restarted. No noticeable impact to users is anticipated.
  • All Employee computers will receive upgrades to Firefox version 10, Thunderbird version 10, and a plugin for the campus BDMS system. Employees are encouraged to leave their computers turned on, but to log off when leaving work for the day. This will assist with the installation process and ensures that the process can run before employees return to work on Friday.
  • As a reminder, the campus voice mail system will be down next Tuesday, February 21st from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM for a hardware and software upgrade. Employees are urged to clean out old voice mails before Monday to minimize the amount of data that will be transferred into the new system.

As always, please contact the ASC Computing Services Help Desk at x7741 or via email at asccompserv@adams.edu if you have any questions or concerns.

Computing Services Maintenance this Thursday and Scheduled Network Downtime Friday Evening

Computing Services will be performing the following maintenance activities during our normally scheduled maintenance window Thursday night at 9:00 PM.

  • Beginning at 9:00 PM, all Banner services including Banner web for students will be unavailable as we perform a critical upgrade to the Financial Aid module. Banner users are asked to log out of Banner when leaving work for the day. The upgrade is scheduled to take roughly 2 hours.
  • Also beginning at 9:00 PM, all campus web services will be down for roughly 2 hours for a critical upgrade. The Bradford system which registers and runs security scans on newly connected student computers will be down for roughly 1 hour during this maintenance as we replace a faulty power distribution unit.
  • Employee computers will receive critical Microsoft Windows and Office security patches. Employees are encouraged to leave their computers turned on, but logged out as they leave work for the day.

Additionally, on Friday evening beginning at 6:30 PM, Computing Services will be performing maintenance on our campus core
router. Because this system controls all networking services (employees, wireless and ResNet for Students) we chose this
window of Friday evening to attempt to minimize the impact to campus. Estimated downtime to all networking services is 1
hour.

As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact the ASC Computing Services Help Desk at x7741 or via
email at asccompserv@adams.edu. We know there is never an ideal time to perform maintenance, but we appreciate your
patience and support as we work to provide stable, secure services to the campus community.

Computing Services Maintenance for Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

Due to the length of time required to perform the maintenance, the following maintenance activities will take place beginning at 5 PM:

  • All Banner services will be unavailable from 5:00 PM until around midnight for the installation of battery back-up systems, power distribution units, and cable management equipment. Employees are asked to log out of all Banner systems when leaving work. Students will not be able to access their grades or other school services during this time.
