Adelante Family Services formed from the La Puente Home as the shelter sought to help families in need of education, employment, and a structured environment to transition out of homelessness.

Since then, Adelante has developed into a two-year extensive program and serves to empower homeless families in moving forward. To participate in the program, individuals must be above the age of eighteen and accept their terms of the program to work with a case manager, attend life skills classes, counseling sessions, and access community resources made available through Adelante.

Interested in serving or contributing to Adelante’s Family Service Program? There are several ways community members can become involved:

Volunteer your time: Adelante’s staff’s main priority is service. At times, the needs of repairing bicycles, building a bike rack for their residents, servicing and/or cleaning out the Adelante car or creating a welcoming home atmosphere have caused them to need extra hands and willing volunteers. If you need volunteer hours or have a heart to serve, try Adelante!

Fundraise for Adelante: Adelante consistently funds their families with gas vouchers, toiletries and basic necessities. Families are also in need of efficient cars, washers and dryers. If you are a part of an organization on campus, church affiliation or community group, do not hesitate to include Adelante in a future fundraiser!

If you are participating in the Trinidad State Junior College (TSJC) Fair February 5: Adelante clients could use your support. Case Manager Jordan McIlveen reports, “Some of our clients currently enrolled in Technical or Associates Programs at TSJC are attending in hopes of transferring to Adams State University (ASU) to complete a Bachelor’s degree. We have Welding, Aquaculture, Chemistry, Business, Psychology, and Sociology students at TSJC.  Last spring one of our families graduated from ASU’s with a Bachelors and is now working in the  health care workforce. Education is the most important key for families to move forward.”

Donate to the Ruth Bloom Fund: Ruth Bloom, a community resident and advocate for Adelante jumpstarted her mission of fundraising for Adelante clients Visit the following website  to support a homeless family starting their own business: www.lapuente.net/family

Teach a Life Skills Class: Adelante hosts Life Skill Classes for their families every Monday. Adelante welcomes experienced and passionate community volunteers to conduct a class or share a talent. Life Skills Classes include hands-on and informational classes in housing programs, civic responsibility, business and employment readiness, academic counseling, financial literacy, computer and English literacy, active parenting, and healthy living.
