The Grizzly men’s lacrosse team hosted the Fort Lewis men’s club lacrosse team for a Sunday afternoon scrimmage at ASC Lacrosse Field, where junior Kevin Bertrand (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) wasn’t slowed by the snow in scoring six goals to lead the way in a 15-7 victory.
The Skyhawks struck first just over two minutes after the start of the game, but Bertrand tallied his first goal of the game to tie the contest at 1-1 with 9:30 left in the first quarter. FLC would then take a 2-1 lead thanks to Bradley Hall, but ASC would reel off three more goals in the opening period and never trailed again.
Bertrand put in his second goal of the game in a man-up situation for the Grizzlies to take a 3-2 lead, and scored two more in the second quarter to help ASC stake out to an 8-5 lead at the break.
The Grizzlies defense stiffened in the second half and freshman keeper Ronnie Fernando (Lake Forest, Calif.) made 12 saves in the game, while Fort Lewis scored just twice after the break and was shutout in the third quarter.
Behind Bertrand, sophomore Mac Piper (Salt Lake City, Utah) scored three goals for the Grizzlies, and freshman Drew Kerigan (Westminster, Colo.) found the net twice.
ASC dished out eight assists on their 15 goals, led by freshman Trevis Thompson (Centennial, Colo.) who handed out two.
Adams State will have another exhibition match-up next Saturday, facing the Colorado State Club Team in Colorado Springs.
