Fruit and Vegetables are Our Friends for a Long Life

There are many people today that tend to be a little over weight. Why and how do people blimp up like balloons we may ask? It is simple; our eyes are bigger than our bellies.
Some people do have medical conditions like Hypothyroidism which causes the metabolisms to slow down its process. This is understandable. Depression is another big medical problem that can cause people to gain weight, yet this is arguable.
Living in our world today can be tough to turn down junk food. It’s quick and it’s easy. It’s hard to watch TV without a fast food commercial brain washing us into wanting their “delicious” food. Being a college student I think it is safe to say that it sounds weird if your friend says “hey you guys wanna go to the grocery store and buy some vegetables for dinner tonight?”, as if. What sounds better when everyone is lounging around, and someone says “Micky D’s anyone?”
Some people blame their obesity on big fast food corporations. I’m sure many of you have heard about people trying to sue big corporations like McDonald’s because they have gained too much weight. This is absurd; other people are not responsible for your own weight gain. There isn’t going to be someone following you around telling you what and what not to eat, take some responsibility.
This school has over six hundred athletes attending, I am positive that a large proportion of them don’t all eat as healthy as they should. I can say this because I am an athlete at this school and I eat fast food more often then I should. There are other ways to combat gaining weight; and that my friend is called exercise. Honestly you can eat whatever you like as long as you exercise and eat things in moderation.
So before I trail off, there are a few simple things we can do to help prevent weight gain. College student tend to stay up all night trying to finish a paper, or whatever we all do, therefor getting hungry later on in the night. Eating at the correct times of day is crucial. Eating late at night isn’t good for digestion. Instead of snatching at that easy snack or junk food, snack on some fruit or veg, it’s good for you. Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day, get a good one, oatmeal and a banana is perfect. This country has an epidemic problem that affects a great deal. Fast food is cheap we all know that, but you can also find a number of websites online showing how to make healthy food for less (ex. Eatingwell.com).
Large people need to realize that obesity can be a big problem if it is not dealt with. Obesity can cause Diabetes, Heart disease, and also having an effect on our reproductive system making children have birth defects. Take responsibility for our actions and make the right decisions. In the future try to resist the juicy temptations of the junk food cult if you don’t plan on balancing it out.
