Adams State College freshman Katelyn Lovato has earned her second ASCGrizzlies.com and Paw Print Athlete of the Week honor just days after she was named the RMAC Freshman of the year.
This week, Lovato extended her consecutive game hit streak to an impressive 38 as she recorded hits in all seven Grizzly games during the week against the Colorado State-Pueblo ThunderWolves and Mesa State Mavericks.
Hitting an impressive .621 during the week, she had 18 hits (in 29 at bats) including a triple while nabbing five RBI and scoring 12 runs. Raising her batting average to .523 while moving into second in the NCAA statistics, she also stole four bases to finish the year with 17.
Lovato, who has a RMAC-high 78 hits this season, also had 16 putouts and two outfield assists during the Grizzlies’ 4-3 week.
Lovato beat out this year’s Athlete of the Year winners, Rueben Mwei and Indira Spence.
The ASCGrizzlies.com Athlete of the Week award, which will be handed out weekly, was selected by a vote of media members and ASC administrators as well as by visitors to the Grizzly website, who could cast their vote in an online poll.
