Athlete of the Week: May 5

Luke Cragg

Adams State College men’s track and field team member, Luke Cragg hasbeen named as the ASCGrizzlies.com Athlete of the Week for the week ending on May 1.
Cragg recorded a national performance list leading and NCAA Automatic Qualifying time of 13:41.13 in the 5K at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational on Sunday evening.  The time ranks him 14th on the NCAA Division II All-Time performers list.
The ASCGrizzlies.com Athlete of the Week award, which will be handed out weekly, was selected by a vote of media members and ASC athletic administrators as well as by visitors to the Grizzly website and to the ASC Grizzlies’ Facebook page, who could cast their vote in an online poll.
Cragg won the vote by nabbing four of the first place votes and four second place votes amongst the ASC administrators and media members. Softball second baseman Alexis Gallego, who hit .750 (6-for-8) over the weekend with her first two triples of the season over the weekend, won the online vote as she garnered 42.9 percent of the 35 votes that were cast online. She earned three first place votes from the ASC administrators and media members. Cragg won 31.4 percent of the 35 votes online.
Other nominees were women’s golfer Kendall Martin, who nabbed 8.6 percent of the online voted, and women’s track and field athlete Kristen McGlynn, who had 17.1 percent.
