ALAMOSA (October 19) – The Adams State University Cultural Awareness and Student
Achievement (CASA) Center scheduled events to celebrate Día de los Muertos.
All events at the ASU CASA Center, 101 Faculty Drive, unless otherwise noted.
Día de los Muertos is a traditional Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico
particularly in the Central and Southern regions and by others of Mexican Heritage
throughout the world. The multi-day holiday focuses on gatherings where friends and
family pray for and remember loved ones who have passed to help support their spiritual
journey.
A Catrina and Calavera contest will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, in the Nielsen
Library. The evening will include food, Mariachi music, dance performances and a
traditional alter display.
The Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science
(SACNAS) Fun Run will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the CASA Center. The
run will consist of either a 2K or 5K. Registration is $20 for adults and $15 for children
and includes a free t-shirt for the first 30 people who register. There will be prizes. In
keeping with the Día de los Muertos theme, participants may walk/run in honor of a
loved one and are welcome to place a photo of their loved one at a Día de los Muertos
alter following the run. To register email Dr. Kristy Duran, professor of biology, at
