Dear DLC, I am a 23-year-old woman who is now pregnant for a man that I met a couple months ago. At first, the relationship was fine and we were both happy. He would normally come by my house at nights and wouldn’t leave until I am getting ready for my first class. Now, he leaves before daylight. Since he is an officer of the law his shifts varies, so I thought he was leaving earlier as a result. But I just recently found out that he has another woman who is also pregnant. I keep asking myself, why me?
Dr. Doitright: It is very sad that you got pregnant for a man you recently met and it is even more disturbing to know that you did not give yourself sufficient time to know him before you shared your bed with him. Since you are pregnant, the most important thing right now is your child, and whether you like it or not, he is the father and he has to be a part of his/her life. I implore you to sit with him and try to find out what his intentions are for you and the baby.
Don Juan: Don’t take this the wrong way, but it was a mistake by getting into with someone a few months in. That is hardly enough time to know about an individual let alone the father of your child. You should realize that you are still young and have your whole life ahead of you, and that if you weren’t ready for a responsibility such as this then,
1.It should have never happened in the first place and 2. The baby deserves a loving family who will be there no matter what.
