The Adams State College men’s golf team slipped back to 10th place in the final standings of the Dairy Queen Wolf Pack Invitational, which wrapped up Tuesday here at Walking Stick Golf Course.
The Grizzlies, posted a round of 339 in the second round, completed Tuesday morning after it was suspended due to darkness on Monday. The Grizzlies then came back to post a team score of 322 in the third and final round, finishing with a total score of 969.
Fort Lewis won the team title with a 3-round score of 868 while the host Colorado State-Pueblo ThunderWolves finished second, just seven shots behind and one shot ahead of UC-Colorado Springs.
Colorado State-Pueblo’s Scott Wyers, playing as an individual and not amongst the Pack’s five 5-man lineup, claimed individual medalist honors with a 3-round score of 211, which was five strokes under par.
The Grizzlies’ top individual finisher was junior Isaac Pacheco, who finished with a 54-hole score of 240 to finish 48th. He followed his opening round score of 78 with scores of 83 and 79 on the 7,243-yard, par-72 course.
Fellow junior Jonathan Atencio, who was playing for the first time this season for the Grizzlies, finished just behind in 49th with a 3-round score of 242.
He followed his opening round of 78 with scores of 81 and 83.
Meanwhile, senior Mic Davis finished in a tie for 50th at 243, just three shots off his career-best score for a tournament. He posted scores of 89 and 79 in the second and third rounds after carding a career-best 75 in Monday’s opening round. Davis also tied for the tournament lead in eagles with two, both of which came in the first round.
Freshman John Gorell was 52nd at 246 while Josh Crow took 54th at 256. Gorell had scores of 87 and 82 in his final two rounds while Crow posted a round of 88 in the second round before coming back to fire an 82 in the final round, his best of the week.
The Grizzlies will wrap up their season next Monday and Tuesday at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships, to be played on the Heritage Course at Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
