On Monday, April 4, 2011, Obama for America, President Obama’s federal campaign arm, began filing paperwork for Barack Obama to run for his second term as President of the United States. It is clear from the horizon of a strenuous and tiring battle that the candidate of hope and change fully intends to defend the progress he claims he has made on behalf of the American people.
That means he will defend the Health Care Reform law he signed in 2010, because other than that he has been a typical president of the same old, tired and lame politics.
He has, however, succeeded in providing change, especially in 2010. For one, we now have one of the most conservative and radical House of Representatives in history. Republicans achieved the greatest midterm election victory ever. Our new Speaker of the House can’t go a minute without crying.
The unemployment rate reached over 10 percent. We have succeeded in re-writing American history as Iraq is now our longest running war. One day the administration has one position and belief, and then poof, it’s like Mary Poppins is in the room. An example being most notably the situation in Libya.
One day we won’t be intervening, the very next our planes strike. One day we will be trying terrorist suspects through our justice system, the next we will be keeping them in torture chambers in Guantanamo Bay, which coincidentally should have closed within the first year of President Obama’s term. There is change, but I and others have lost hope.
This is definitely not an endorsement of the Republican Party. They are presently beyond ridiculous or reasonable. They have actually held votes to de-fund PBS and Sesame Street. They are unwilling to compromise or work with Democrats on any level. Absolutely no progress has been made unless it is 100 percent within their current radical beliefs.
They will not allow criticism or debate in the House of Representatives; one need only need to turn on five minutes of CSPAN to quickly see Democrats being demonized and accused of harassment and denied freedom of speech.
Quite hypocritical, but highly typical of the party who always campaigns on giving us more liberty. Stifling debate is anything but liberty. On their candidate for President level, I am flabbergasted at the circus clowns coming forward.
They actually have Donald Trump running for the nomination of the Republican Party, and the horrid thing is, I don’t doubt for one second that he might come out the victor. Trump bankrupted a casino, and has the audacity to come forward during a crippling recession claiming he has the answers.
He has furthered the absurd birther conspiracy, that’s the new term for racism, by flapping around his own certificate claiming he has never seen Obama’s and therefore his presidency may be invalid. FactCheck.org has a copy for anyone interested, all respectable news organizations, including Fox News, have seen and verified Obama has a valid birth certificate in line with the laws of the state of Hawaii.
Sarah Palin is running, you betcha! She has a show on Discovery Channel, filled with right wing propaganda. Mr. Priebus is the new Chair of the Republican National Committee, the attempt to have an African American Chair of the RNC to counter balance the African American President, didn’t satisfy the Republican Party or shall we say the Tea Party.
Who is surprised? Funny fact, Jon Stewart showed a clip with all candidates stating how many guns they owned. Priebus stated a far reaching extremist number. Jon Stewart said jokingly, “Ladies and gentlemen the new chair of the RNC.” No one is laughing now.
It is unfortunate we have reached a point in American politics where our candidates are loons and our idiot box celebrities. The terrifying thing is people actually vote for these individuals. We need true leadership and insight to once again come forth.
We need someone with the courage of Abraham Lincoln. Someone with the strength and brilliance of John F. Kennedy. Someone with ideas that will lead us into the next millennium like Benjamin Franklin. A leader who will provide jobs and come from the middle like Bill Clinton. I would even settle for the ideas and hope of Senator Barack Obama.
Instead, we have the option of a rogue governor shooting bears in Alaska, a casino owner who fired himself, a socialist Republican who provided health care to his own state but opposes it in every other, tea party activists who can’t spell constitution, and the big freaking who has provided change, but no hope.
Second cult member for Obama. It may surprise at least one of the above commentators but I too was for another Democrat before Obama became the nominee. As said leader of the Adams State College Cult for Obama I am happy with my decision and do not regret it. I am only pointing out that Obama campaigned on providing some great change and has been mediocre in my perspective, and disappointing on some policy issues.
I most likely would not support another Democrat running against President Obama in 2012. He certainly did not create the mess we are in and that is just a plain fact. Sure he could have handled some issues differently and better but I will not place blame on him for every problem the United States is facing. Nor will I treat him or even write about him with the extreme magnitude of disrespect that has ever been bestowed upon an American President.
Hilary Clinton was well known because of her husband President Bill Clinton. Their family is respected in Democratic politics, and one of the great assets. But one can easily compare that type of candidate to President George W. Bush. He was the son of a former President, a Governor, the brother of a Governor, and that certainly did not make him a very good or effective President.
I think Democrats in general should get tougher in their message. They did a good job today with the Government shutdown possibility by staying on message. Yes, the in party would have lost seats anyway, and the congressional democrats in 2010 made some huge mistakes, but the real issue with the high dislike of Obama is some individuals cannot accept a black president of the United States with a parent from Kenya. Their sheltered in their little worlds of religious and racial intolerance on back country roads where minorities are ignored and they cannot believe one was legitimately elected. What other President has ever had to endure the amount of questioning and demands to see a birth certificate even beyond the laws of his United States State of birth? None.
One cult member for President Obama. The way he has been treated by mean people has convinced me he is worth my vote. I too was for Hillary Clinton but would not vote for her if she ran against him.
As one who supported Hillary Clinton, or any of the other Democrats seeking the nomination in 2008, I am happy to see that Anthony has finally come to the realization that the Messiah Obama was and is a fraud. I was never a member of his cult following groupies. He gives a good speech, and nothing else. While the GOP would have won seats anyway (the out-party almost always does in midterm election years), having the Messiah as the face of the party put the Democrats in an even worse position to defend their House majority status.
I have never been one to not toot my own horn and will not start now. Anyone taking me in the spring, summer, or fall of 2008 will recall my prediction that the Messiah would cause longterm harm to the congressional Democrats. He has. Not-ready-for-prime-time Messiah Obama is in way over his head. I hope all of the cult members are happy with what they have done.
