The “Gunners” knocked the team from Merseyside out of the FA Cup

On February 16, Arsenal’s team regained the people’s respect after the loss that Arsene Wenger’s guys suffered roughly two weeks ago from Liverpool F.C. on Anfield stadium, in a regular EPL weekend. The “Gunners” faced Liverpool again in the 1/8 finals of the oldest football tournament in the world – FA Cup. This past Sunday everything seemed to be in favor of the team from London and, even though Liverpool F.C. had numerous chances to win their place at the ¼ finals of the tournament, something in their game was missing and they fell short at the end.
Arsen Wenger’s team delivered a solid performance throughout the whole game, even though the team had to mostly defend in the last 10-15 minutes, while Liverpool F.C. was putting all of their offensive power into action, accumulating some great chances and being really close to the equalizer, which would have given them the chance of replaying that game. Arsenal opened the score in the 16th minute through Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Lucas Podolski added one more right after the beginning of the 2nd half. The Liverpool’s midfielder, captain and living legend Steven Gerrard, scored for the team from Merseyside in the 60th minute from a penalty, keeping the hope alive for his teammates and all of the Liverpool’s supporters.
The game started better for the team from the Merseyside and, up until the 16th minute, they were the team with more goal scoring opportunities. The Liverpool’s forward, Daniel Sturridge, found himself 1v1 with Arsenal’s goalkeeper, Lucas Fabianski, twice in the beginning stages of the game but ended up not being able to put the ball in the back of the net. After the 1st goal in the game in the 16th minute, the “Gunners” took control over the events on the field. However, in the 60th minute after dribbling inside the 18-yard box, Luiz Suarez won a penalty kick for his team and the team’s captain, Gerrard, scored to make the score 2:1. Two minutes later Sturridge had another 1v1 chance to score after a sublime pass by Philippe Coutinho, but the forward failed for a third time.  So at the end of the day, Arsenal F.C. managed to keep their lead and qualified for the quarterfinals of the FA Cup, where they will meet another team from Merseyside, Liverpool’s all time rivals: Everton F.C.
