The Adventure of Grocery Shopping in America

For many Americans, grocery shopping has become a hassle. The long lines, the socializing with people you don’t like, and especially the cost. It’s no wonder people try to avoid a Walmart run whenever possible. Here are the top three reasons grocery shopping downright sucks.

1. Let’s be honest no human being enjoys waiting. We live in a world where speed is everything. Getting everything and anything instantly has become a priority and growing obsession. This is why waiting in line to pay for groceries seems almost unacceptable. While walking by each register the only common expression is impatience and anger. It doesn’t seem to help that out of the twenty registers available only three of them are open. The only way to avoid these lines is by heading to the store at awful hours early in the morning or very late at night. Again this by no means is convenient for the average person. Waiting in long lines just adds to the experience that is grocery shopping.

2. In small towns like Alamosa, everyone seems to know everyone. And since Alamosa is the largest town in the valley, other people from around Alamosa make their way over to buy what they need. A trip to the store that should take no more than ten minutes ends up being an hour long because of all of the friends and acquaintances you see. In order to make the trip shorter, try keeping the conversations short and sweet. It will cut your trip time in half.

3.Nothing quite brings down someone’s mood like having to wait in line to pay for groceries. Now of days it takes around $200 to buy a cart full of food. On average, a gallon of milk costs more than a gallon of regular gas. That is ridiculous. One way to help lower the cost is by purchasing generic items instead of brand name. I know many people love buying brand name items, but most of the time the product is pretty close to the same, just different prices. So whenever possible ditch the name brand and give the generic brand a try.

Next time you take a trip to the grocery store, take a deep breath and mentally prepare. Yes it’s a hassle and a pain in the butt, but if you love food, it needs to be done. Next time you’re waiting in a long line, stock your best friend on social media, or flip through your favorite magazine. Just remember that you’re not the only person on earth who hates grocery shopping.

be ever in your favor!”
