Female Paw Print Athlete of the Year

Katelyn Lovato

Adams State College sophomore outfielder for the softball team Katelyn Lovato has been named as the Paw Print Female Athlete of the Year for the 2010-2011 academic school year.
Lovato, who was named as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Year, leads all players in the conference with a .505 batting average, 41 stolen bases, 92 hits, eight triples and 58 runs scored.
Her eight triples and 41 stolen bases are new single-season records for the Grizzlies while her 58 runs scored is third on the ASC charts.
In addition to her stats from her freshman season, when she led the RMAC with a .523 batting average, Lovato has also set new career school records for triples with 10, and stolen bases with 58. She also set an NCAA Division II record for consecutive games with a hit, recording a hit in 42 straight games over the last two seasons. She also earned RMAC and National Fastpitch Coaches Association Player of the Week honors this season.
As was the same with Athlete of the Week honors, the Athlete of the Year was selected by a vote of media members and ASC athletic administrators. Indira Spence finished second in the voting by one vote while Kristen McGlynn, Cassie Mitchell, Jessica Hellwig, Kendra Coveal, Janell Higgs, Dominque Davis and Amanda Hisel were all nominated for the honor.
