The Teacher Education Department at Adams recently sought nominations from students and the community for outstanding educators for the ASC Educators Hall of Fame. The applicants for the Hall of Fame sought are from all over the San Luis Valley and are meant to reflect the excellence of all professional educators in their efforts to give others the information, drive and ability to excel in their life and benefit society.
Adams State College has had a longstanding history in teacher education and has its beginning roots in creating the future generation of teachers. As the years have passed, the focus as an institution has changed and adapted to the desires of its students and the demands of the times, however the creation and appreciation of great teachers everywhere for a better future and society has remained close to the heart here at ASC. As part of preparing students for the workforce in whatever field they are headed into, ASC has taken to collecting and maintaining an excellent faculty of very talented and brilliant educators. It is only proper and fitting that such excellence be recognized for contributing to the professional success of students, and that appreciation be shown to other institutions in the area whose drive is similar across the wide span of education to their students.
The aim of the ASC Educators Hall of Fame is to recognize local educators and show appreciation to their work at all education levels, not just the college level educators and not just those here at Adams. Nominees for the Hall of Fame are competing for a position in one of four categories; Elementary Educator, Secondary Educator, Post-Secondary Educator and Administration.
In addition to having a minimum of ten years within the educational field, nominees for the Hall of Fame are evaluated also by their contributions to the educational field, expertise as an educator, maintenance in a high moral character as well as their contributions to the students during their educational career. Winners of the Hall of Fame are to be determined in the following weeks by a committee, who will evaluate the nominees and announce the winners publicly at an honorary banquet to be held on Monday, May 7 at 6 p.m. at Carson Auditorium.
All Hall of Famers will be given an honorary plaque reflecting their acceptance into the Hall of Fame and appreciation for their work during their career, as well as having their name transcribed on another plaque that will be installed with future Hall of Fame Educators in McDaniel’s Hall. All are more than welcome to come and support the honoring banquet of the educators, all are more so encouraged to attend the ceremony given the contributions an educator has had to each of us, their moment of reflection and recognition are a long time coming, but well deserved and highly supported by the ASC and surrounding community.
