Athlete of the Week for October 21

Adams State College senior setter Mary McNeil has been named as the ASCGrizzlies.com Athlete of the Week for week ending on October 17.
McNeil tallied 101 assists, an average of 10.10 per set, and 27 digs, an average of 2.70 per set, as she became the Grizzlies’ NCAA Division II era (1992-Present) career assists record holder.  Leading the Grizzlies to an impressive .418 team percentage, McNeil tallied 31 in a 3-set win over Chadron State on Thursday night.  She then broke the record in the fourth set of the Grizzlies’ win over UC-Colorado Springs when she had 42 assists and 15 digs to record her 21st career double-double.  McNeil then finished with 28 assists against nationally-ranked Metro State.
McNeil now has 3,521 career assists, 32 more than the former NCAA Division II era career-record total of 3,489 set by Monica Garcia during her 2001-04 career.  Melanie Schiele, who had one season (1991) at the NAIA level holds ASC’s all-time record of 4,543 and had 3,282 in the three years in which she played at the NCAA Division II level (1992-94).
McNeil is also tied for ninth in the Grizzlies’ NCAA Division II era for career service aces with 72.
The ASCGrizzlies.com Athlete of the Week award, which will be handed out weekly, was selected by a vote of media members and ASC athletic administrators as well as by visitors to the Grizzly website, who could cast their vote in an online poll.
McNeil ran away with this weeks vote as well as nabbed five of the first place votes among administrators and media members. McNeil also won the online voting as she nabbed 36.1 percent of the 199 votes that were cast online. Chris Jamison of the football team finished in second place in the online voting as he got 31.2 percent of the votes. Kristen McGlynn of the women’s cross country team finished in second in the overall voting as she nabbed two first place votes. Other nominees for the honor this week were Amber Drumm of the women’s soccer squad, Joesph Jallow of the men’s soccer squad, Ryan McNiff of the men’s cross country team and Issac Pacheco of the men’s golf squad.
