Athelete of the Week for September 16: Kristen McGlynn

Adams State College cross country senior Kristen McGlynn, has been named as the Print Athlete of the Week for week ending on Sept. 12.
McGlynn obliterated the course record as the nation’s top-ranked Grizzly women’s cross country team recorded a perfect-score of 15 to easily claim the team title at Saturday’s 17th annual Joe I. Vigil Open at Cattails Golf Course.
The 2009 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Runner of the Year successfully defended her meet title by an incredible 38 seconds, posted a time of 17 minutes, 1 second on the 5-kilometer course smashing the former 10-year old record of 17:22, set by previous Grizzly great Kim Bosen.
On Wednesday afternoon, McGlynn was named the RMAC Runner of the Week award, her third of her career.
McGlynn now has four wins in seven tries during her Grizzly career after transferring from Division I Baylor prior to the 2009 campaign.
The Print Athlete of the Week award, which will be handed out weekly, was selected by a vote of media members and ASC athletic administrators as well as by visitors to the Grizzly website, who could cast their vote in an online poll.
McGlynn, who earned five first place votes from media and administrator voters, won the online vote as well as she garnered 37.2 percent of the 113 votes cast online. Second place went to volleyball player Dominique Davis who earned two first-place votes from media members and administrators and finished in second in the online vote with 26.5 percent of the vote. Ryan McNiff, also named RMAC runner of the Week on the male side, finished in third place with 25.7 percent of the vote. Ross Benson of the Men’s Golf program and Kelsey McSpadden of the Women’s Golf program rounded out the candidates. is powered by WordPress µ | Spam prevention powered by Akismet
