GOTHENBUR, Neb.- Senior Jonathan Atencio (Alamosa, Colo.) carded an opening round 77 and stood amongst the top half of the field after the first round of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference/Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Crossover, which got underway Sunday here at Wild Horse Golf Club.  Led by Atencio, the Adams State College Grizzlies combined for a team score of 325 and stood in 20th place amongst all 21 NSIC and RMAC squads, getting a head-to-head look at each other for one of the few, if not only time, this season.
The second round, which was scheduled to be completed Sunday, was suspended due to darkness because of slow play throughout the day and will be resumed Monday morning at 8 a.m. CST before Monday’s regularly scheduled third and final round on the 6,955-yard, par-72 course.
Atencio, who played the front-9 holes in 37, was tied for 42nd amongst the 105 players in the field after the opening 18 holes.
Meanwhile, Grizzly freshman Scott Patrick (Canon City, Colo.) posted 40’s on each side en-route to an opening round score of 80.  He stood in a 69th place tie.  Redshirt freshman Willie Squires (Pueblo West, Colo.) also posted a 40 on the backside and is tied for 89th overall after a first-round 83.
Senior Josh Hensley (Alamosa, Colo.) is tied for 97th after an opening-round 85 while sophomore Ben Kelloff (Monte Vista, Colo.) tallied an 86 to stand in 100th place.  He took 39 strokes on the front-9.
UC-Colorado Springs led the team chase after the first round as the Mountain Lions posted a 4-player team score of 290, good for a 6-shot lead over Colorado Mines and Colorado State-Pueblo, tied for second at 296.  The Mountain Lions also have the individual leader in Spencer Biersdorff, who carded a 4-under par 68 in the first round.   He leads Minnesota-Crookston’s, Jesse Roscoe by two shots and teammate Eddie DeLashmutt by three.
The RMAC had five of the top seven teams in the standings after the first round.
