ALAMOSA, CO. (March 14, 2014) . . . Adams State University’s Rex Stadium and The Residences at Rex project is the subject of a presentation to be made March 25 at the Society for College and University Planning’s (SCUP) Pacific Regional Conference. To be held in Hollwood, Calif, the conference’s theme is “Discover NEW MODELS (of Integrated Planning).”
Bill Mansheim, Adams State Vice President for Finance and Governmental Relations, and Erik van de Boogaard, recently retired as the university’s Associate Vice President for Facilities Planning, Design & Construction, will present “Intersections: Enriching the Campus Experience Through Atypical Program Combinations.” Their co-presenters will be Brian Erickson, principal, and Joe Lear, associate principal, both of Davis Partnerships Architects, which designed the campus project.
Adams State broke ground in July 2009 for the Residences at Rex apartment and stadium facility, the first new student housing built in 45 years. The project included vacation of one block of Stadium Drive to create the North Campus Green. It is considered an unprecedented model for student housing that transformed half of a well-established campus into a center of student life and activity, producing a pedestrian-oriented campus center from what was an automobile focused streetscape.
Specifically, the presentation will address:
Creating synergies between campus departments
Enriching student life through integrated campus planning
Identifying funding streams in an economic recession
Engaging community and creating economic opportunities
The co-presenters will describe the process that successfully integrated the needs of athletics, housing, and student life into a single project.
The Residences at Rex project met LEED standards for environmentally conscious construction, as did several other recent campus remodeling projects.
