ALAMOSA (April 2) – Adams State University hosted the Student Leadership Banquet, on March 30 in the Student Union Building banquet rooms. The event was packed with amazing food, live music, and a room of well-dressed audience members, there to honor student leaders on campus.

The banquet host was Mark Pittman, assistant director of Housing and Residence Life. The keynote speaker was Corrine Padilla ‘05, an Adams State Alumnus. Padilla reflected on what she had learned throughout her years at Adams. Padilla went on to talk about her five steps of leadership and success.

The Vice President for Student Affairs Outstanding Leadership Award was given to Cody Morton. He received the award for his strong leadership skills on campus and being involved in many on campus activities. His greatest achievement was helping out the sports department.

This was the seventh year Adams State hosted the leadership banquet. Every year the event grows with more student leader nominees. The leadership banquet allows each department to nominate who they feel has shown the highest level of leadership.

Through the night the room was filled with applause and laughter. Each presenter added their own humor and personalized their speech to accurately describe the winner of the award. Many award recipients were described as “team leaders, responsible, trusting individuals, and showing growth throughout their years at Adams State”.

Award recipients included: Samantha Sargent, Admissions; Brandy Parry, AS&F Club Leadership; Cody Morton, AS&F Student Government; Gretchen Rachlis, Counseling & Prevention Services; Christopher Quintana, Cultural Awareness and Student Achievement Center;  Vanessa Moore, Emerging Leader; Krystal Nuccitelli, Exemplary Service to ASU & Community; Ashley Favela, Grizzly Activity Board; Angela Prentiss, Resident Assistant; Merlin Ginther, STEM Center; Sam Sahli, Student Engagement & Success; Danica Kristiansen, Student Life & Recreation; and Taylor Crowther, The Grizzly Testing & Learning Center.
