Grizzlies Softball took the field against Metro State this weekends for their first home series of the year. After a ruff series of away games the Grizzlies were out to break their five game losing streak coming out strong and sweeping Metro in both games on Saturday.
The grizzlies won the first game of the day 7-6 taking the game out to nine innings. After being down one run going into the bottom of the 5th inning senior Alexandrea Moore scored bringing the game to a 6-6 tie. The score remained locked up 6-6 until the 9th inning where senior Erica Ecsedy scored the game winning run off a hit by teammate Tayler Else.
The second game of the afternoon also saw the Grizzlies to victory this time with a score of 6-4 in seven innings. This game was highlighted by two home runs in the 3rd inning. Senior Erica Haugum started off the inning with the first of the two homers followed up one batter later by sophomore teammate Kelsi Kautsz. Sunday the Grizzlies took the field again and were unable to repeat the sweep of the previous day. In two narrow losses the grizzlies fell 9-7 and 9-8. Sundays first game saw metro take an early 2-0 lead that the Grizzlies were able to reverse in the fourth taking the lead with a score of 3-6. Metro came back strong in the fifth taking the lead again, and won in eight. Sunday’s second game was another close loss. Here the grizzlies took an early lead scoring in the first and building their lead through the fourth were Metro came back to tie and ultimately take the lead. The Grizzlies are back in action in Alamosa this weekend with games against Mine and Black Hills.
