Full of adventure and surprises “The Lego Movie” manages to capture the attention of audiences of all ages. With a fascinating story line, Emmet- an ordinary LEGO mini-figure- is mistaken for a master builder who holds the key to saving the world. Drafted into a group of heroes, Emmet begins a journey he is not prepared for. While others believe he is a hero, the truth is he is an ordinary construction worker who knows nothing else but to follow the rules. As his journey continues he discovers a side of himself where at first he fears then later begins to embrace. At times the people we least expect will surprise us and they may even surprise themselves. A clever and vividly imagined film with voices of movie Icons such as Will Arnett as Batman, Elizabeth Banks as Wyldstyle, Morgan Freeman as Vitruvius, Will Ferrell as President Business, Liam Neeson as Bad Cop, and Channing Tatum as Superman.
While having a computer-animated film can be difficult, the writers of “The Lego Movie” manage to engage the audience by having a variety of characters in the story line. With characters from Lords of the rings, Star Wars, and DC Universe included. This film is not only directed for children but also for anyone who enjoys a good laugh. It has a variety of personalities that we see in the world today.
As people watch this film they find themselves relating to the storyline and characters. Emmet struggles to believe in himself and his abilities, something that we all struggle with from time to time. Wyldstyle- the unexpected character in an animation- has a wild streak that can work in her favor at times. There are unexpected twists, leaving us dumbfounded at the idea that Gandalf the Grey Wizard, Abraham Lincoln our fifteenth president, and Superman a comic Icon are all in the same movie; a movie in which was created with a toy that many kids have enjoyed for generations.
Leaving nothing undone the setting is constantly changing as the plot continues. First taking place in a city that is never spontaneous, then in the Wild Wild West where some of the most outrageous bar fights occur, then in the ocean where Emmet finally discovers what he is capable of, and finally in the tower of President Business where a truce is found between the hero and the villain.
“The Lego Movie” will leave you hoping there will be a trilogy. With its success in engaging the audience of all ages as well as making it relatable this must-see film will become legendary. Conveying the message to believe in yourself even if no one else does. Im sure we all have those moments where we feel like our very existence is in vain but watching this movie shows us that the unexpected in the most likely to happen and those who we believe to be incapable will surprise us with their amazing abilities.
