Alamosa FUMC Hosts an LGBTQ Panel to Share Perspectives

ALAMOSA (February 27) – In the Supreme Court, state legislatures, churches, and living rooms across America, society is engaged in a dialogue about our beliefs and attitudes about the LGBTQ community. From gay marriage to civil rights, there can be no doubt that change is occurring. The Reconciling Ministry Team of the First United Methodist Church in Alamosa is hosting an evening of dialogue to explore where we’ve been, where we are, and where we are going in society and especially within our religious communities with regards to the LGBTQ individuals.
The forum begins at 7 p.m. Friday, March 7, in the Main Stage of the Adams State University Theatre Building. It is free to the public.
The evening will commence with a panel of four Adams State faculty: Dr. Katherine Gubbels, assistant professor of English and co-advisor of the SLV Pride Club; Dr. Nick Saenz, assistant professor of history and co-advisor of the SLV Pride Club; Dr. Rex Filer, professor of counselor education, and Dr. John Taylor, professor of theatre who will moderate the panel. The panel members will share perspectives from their disciplines about larger societal issues with time for input and questions from the audience. After a short refreshment break, a panel of religious leaders will share their perspectives with time for audience participation and questions.
Denominations represented in the second panel include United Methodist, Catholic, Latter Day Saints and Unitarian Universalist. We hope the evening will be a time of growing understanding of a variety of perspectives.
