On the lovely night of April 4, a fun extravaganza Ball or as in Spanish called La Pachanga De Mascara took place. The Latin word “Pachanga” means a lively party and or fiesta which is another word to describe an energetic upbeat fancy dance.
The other half of the name “De Mascara” means The Mask. Pachanga De Mascara is a fun social dance that consists of a formal outfit involving fluffy or long dresses and heels for the girls and casual slacks and ties for the boys.
This fancy dance is an enjoyable event where colors can be expressed and fancy dresses or costumes can be shown off. Not only does La Pachanga De Mascara dance allow everyone to flaunt their good looks in a fancy dress or tie, but also their fantastic Latin and Hip-hop moves.
The dance was opened to Adams State College faculty and students and to everyone in Alamosa. The purpose of this entertaining dance was to bring everyone together and to have a great time as friends.
Many students that showed up enjoyed delicious Horchata, lemonade and yummy snacks like cookies, chips and salsa. Horchata is a famous Latin American drink that is made from white rice, water, vanilla extract, cinnamon and sugar.
During the half time of the dance, after everyone came to dance and show off their good looks in their fancy outfits, the DJ had a best-dressed contest for the boys and girls. Although there were many fascinating outfits, only two winners made the crowd go wild with their spicy outfits.
Judith won best dress and a 15 dollar gift card to Walmart. Her dress was black and stunning along with her strappy heels that complimented her dress. She showed off her glittery and charming mask and dance moves with her friends.
After her rounds of dancing to her favorite songs, Judith said “I’m having fun because it’s Latin night and there are a lot of people that I can dance with and it seems like everyone is enjoying it and they give me the joy.”
Khari Robinson was enjoying his time dancing and socializing with friends as well and said “the night is pretty cool everyone is dancing and having a good time and getting down.”
It was amazing to see all the great smiles, joy and dancing from all the people who showed up. It was nice to hear the great mix of music and experience the fun with all the people who were present.
This was one of the events that took place in recognition of Cesar Chavez that created great memories and happiness.
CASA and the students involved in CASA and enjoy spreading diversity made the dance possible.
Special thanks to Anita for helping start the CASA and honoring Cesar Chavez. Thanks to the Adams State College students who had the pleasure and fun in making this event happen.
It means a lot for a group of people to keep great activist in history alive. In honor of Cesar Chavez his legacy still lives on.
