As the 2011 semester gets underway, students and faculty have grown accustomed to the numerous construction projects that dot the campus landscape. . The campus construction and renovation project officially began on December 27, 2010 under the general management of Adolfson Peterson Construction and are still ongoing. Construction blueprints of the campus were initially conceptualized by Denver design firm Anderson Mason Dale.
According to the project’s head foreman, who requested not to be named, the completion of all construction and landscaping projects, barring any un-foreseen events, will be finished by the end of 2011. Estimates of an earlier completion date had to be changed due to asbestos removal from the older buildings on campus, which significantly slowed preliminary construction projects due to its tedious removal process.
Visually speaking, the new and remodeled buildings will be retro fitted with all new high end finishes and fixtures, but are not being built to a “green” standard, according to the project foreman. Additional consideration has been taken by Adolfson Peterson to ensure that each classroom is equipped with state of the art internet and smart board capabilities. Landscape changes to the campus include larger sidewalks and bench installations along the main campus walkways.
Construction logistics include numerous different companies being sub-contracted by Adolfson Peterson. The majority of the sub-contracted companies come from the San Luis Valley, but a few are from the Pueblo and Denver areas. Although there are more than a dozen companies being sub-contracted by Adolfson and Peterson management problems have been minimal thanks to the experience of the projects head foreman.
Adolfson Peterson Construction has an impressive track record, managing many construction projects from military to hospital renovations and installations. According to the project foreman, who brings 22 years of construction experience, the job at Adams State is an average size project that will be finished as soon as possible.
The exact date of the project’s completion is to remain known only to the upper echelon within Adolfson Peterson. This ambiguity is, at the moment, due to remain because of complications with the previous timeline, according to the foreman.
