Work Study Checks Have a New Delivery Method

This year all ASU student employment and work-study paychecks will be available via direct deposit on to students Higher One account. This means that students will receive paychecks on the 15th of every month regardless of whether they are in Alamosa to pick it up or not, and no more waiting in line at the One Stop.
In the middle of July the ASU Student Business Services sent out a memo concerning the changes that would occur and additional options available to students.  The entire school switches over to the direct deposit system with this August’s payroll and there will be no more standing in line waiting for checks.
Paychecks will be put onto student’s Higher One accounts that are set up for all students upon their enrolment at ASU. Most students know it as the place that they receive any refund from financial aid. It is possible to change the account it is distributed onto.
To have a paycheck deposited into a different account log on to easyrefundcard.com , select the payroll drop down menu and select payroll preferences. From here the payroll can be deposited to a new account.  This means that there will be no paper pay stubs for students to pick up, if students want or need one for their records or any other reason students may find one online at the Higher One web site.
This summer was a trial run for the direct deposit program and was used to try and work out any of the kinks that may come up with the new payroll distribution.  Rather than taking the whole project on at once the school decided to select a few departments to start the summer off and then implement the program for all summer work studies with the August payroll and for all student employees with the September payroll.
In a brief interview with Karla Hardesty, project manager in the enrollment management office, she said that it is beneficial to both the students and to the school; it is quicker and easier for the students and is saves the school money by eliminating the cost of preparing and printing the checks. In addition the service is of no additional charge to the school as it is part of the services offered to the school by the Higher One Program.
September 15th the only checks that will be paid out will be for students who worked from Aug. 1 to Aug. 20, all other students will get paid for their August and September hours on Oct. 15. Please contact the One Stop for more information.
