Lopez will Speak on the Archaic Spanish language of the Region

ALAMOSA (August 27) – Adams State University Autumn@Adams Week will include a lecture on the Spanish dialect of Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico. Dennis Lopez’ SLV Lifeways Lecture, “Archaic Spanish of the Upper Rio Grande Region” begins at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, in McDaniel Hall room 201. The discussion is free and open to the public. Free refreshments will be served.  Lopez, a sixth generation native from Capulin in the San Luis Valley, currently lives in Alamosa.
Lopez received a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and French and a master’s in secondary education from Adams State. He taught academic Spanish in the Alamosa School District and at the same studied the different influences and nuances of the Spanish language dialect spoken in Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico.         This life-long study prepared Lopez to share what he learned about this distinct dialect that is found nowhere else in the Spanish speaking world. McDaniel Hall is located on First Street, on the north side of campus near the stoplight. Parking is located east of McDaniel Hall. Adams State parking lots do not require permits after 5 p.m.
Autumn@Adams Week is September 8 through September 13. Events compliment the 2014 theme, Great Expression/Gran Expresión, including dance, poetry, music, visual art creative processes; an Autumn Colors 5K; the second annual HPPE Open House; a presentation on the language of the SLV; and the annual cook-off.
