Community Education

La Puente’s HOPE (Homeless Organization Promoting Education) Week

Join La Puente for a week of events to raise awareness of hunger and homelessness in the San Luis Valley. HOPE Week will begin on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2 p.m. with “The Mayan Journey to Alamosa” at Milagros Coffeehouse.

Hear local stories of their journey from Guatemala to Alamosa. In addition, we will host an all night sleep-out on the ASU campus green to experience homelessness. Wednesday Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. will be the annual candlelight vigil at the La Puente shelter to honor and remember those in our community experiencing homelessness.

On Thursday Sept. 27 we will have a homeless immersion simulation where participants will experience the day to day struggles faced by homeless Americans each day. We will end the week on Sunday Sept. 30with a 30-year celebration and BBQ at the shelter. Come eat at noon and celebrate La Puente and our service in the Valley for 30 years. Contact La Puente’s Community Education office at 587-3499 for more information on events and getting involved. Hope to see you there.

Migrant Season

It’s migrant season in the San Luis Valley and at La Puente Home. With the cooler weather our migrant farm workers need coats, sweaters, sweatshirts and work gloves. In addition, La Puente Home is serving over 100 people per meal per day.  Donations of meat, pasta, sauce, rice, beans and produce are greatly appreciated. Please drop off donations at La Puente shelter at 913 State Avenue across from KRZA.  Call La Puente at 589-5909 for any questions.  Thanks for your support.
