Athlete of the Week: October 20

Terjean Saffold

Adams State College senior football player Terjean Saffold (Stockton, Calif.) has been named the ASCGrizzlies.com Athlete of the Week for the week ending on Oct. 16.
Saffold scored two touchdowns in the Grizzlies’ 44-40 victory against Western New Mexico University at Rex Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 15. Both scores came within the first five minutes of the game. His first touchdown was a 63-yard run in the first minute of the game, and is the Grizzlies’ longest running play of the season.
His second touchdown came on ASC’s next possession, when Saffold ran the ball 13 yards into the end zone. Saffold reached the century mark rushing for the second time this season, carrying for 147 yards on 20 carries. He averaged 7.3 yards per carry, which is the most in his career.  Saffold’s two touchdowns bring his season total up to six. The Grizzlies improved to 4-3 on the season and 2-3 in conference play.
The ASCGrizzlies.com Athlete of the Week award, which will be handed out weekly, was selected by a vote of media members and ASC athletic administrators as well as by visitors to the Grizzly website, who could cast their vote in an online poll.
Saffold was the unanimous pick among media members and received 49.5 percent of the online votes.
Men’s soccer player Cody Sprouse, women’s soccer player Oralia Gutierrez, men’s swimmer Nick Mankus, and women’s swimmer Jennell Higgs were this week’s other nominees.
