The group’s task was to identify relevant gender-related issues on campus in hopes of later identifying ways to address/solve/advocate for change of these issues. As a whole, the group recognized the following major themes:
Overarching Themes Identified by Group
- Lack of women in upper-ranks of administration; lack of women on cabinet; faculty senate leadership
- Pay inequity
- Promotion level and title (coordinator vs. director; lack of women at professor level)
- Curricular (lack of women’s studies, biased language by teachers, content lacking diverse views)
- Inequality in athletics (coaches, resources, facilities, times of games)
- Communication (biased language on posters)
- Lack of a health care facility for students (access to birth control)
- Lack of diversity with external speakers brought to campus
- Sexual assault and harassment (lack of accountability)
- No childcare facilities; communicating family friendly policies
Others:
- Lack of professional development opportunities
- Intersections of gender, race, class, sexuality, ability, etc.
- Gender bias with hiring
- Representation of women in STEM
- Lack of male advocates for women’s issues
