It looks like a promising year for the ASC theatre department, as they celebrate their tenth year in the Adams State Theatre Building.
They have a lot of exciting shows coming up including a political drama, Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the holiday production, and a reunion show that will feature cast members from ten years ago.
The department will kick off the year with their first production titled Two Rooms, a drama set against the background of terrorism in the Middle East. It is about a prisoner of war and his wife. The entire play literally takes place in two rooms.
The holiday play is The Little Match Girl derived from a folk tale by Hans Christian Andersen. It is about a little girl who comes from poverty and an abusive background. During the whole play she is sick and keeps having funny hallucinations.
Freshmen Caty Herrick says, “This year is really exciting, we have so much variety and the student directed plays are really awesome.”
A big production happening this year is the Laramie Project. Ten years later, it is a play involving Adams State alumni from the original project and will take place on March 26, 2011. This play will be a benefit which will assist in the purchasing of seats for the Xperimental Theatre.
This year audience members have the opportunity to reserve seats in advance for all faculty-directed productions, through Subscriber Series. They will also be able to get discount ticket prices and be able to reserve more tickets for the popular holiday production.
Be sure to catch the exciting productions all year long. For more information about the Subscriber Series, call 587-TIXX (8499). For information about the theatre season, call 587-7382.
