ALAMOSA (October 28) – The Adams State Cycling team wrapped up another successful mountain bike racing season over the weekend at the USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike Nationals in Beech Mountain, NC.
The two team members who represented Adams State at the national competition were Mark Johnson and April Cunningham. Johnson placed 21st in the grueling DII Men’s Cross Country race and 15th in the DII Men’s Short Track race with field sizes of about 50 in each.
Cunningham placed 14th in DII Women’s Cross Country and 17th in DII Women’s Short Track with field sizes of about 30 in each. These are the best overall results the cycling team has posted at a Mountain Bike National Championship.
“We are looking forward to our freshman Ryan Munko joining the nationals’ squad next year as he was injured this year and did not compete though he had qualified for the event,” said Marshall Hartley, head cycling coach.
Hartley said the team is now switching focus to cyclo cross, winter, and road racing, spring seasons. “The fun never ends. We would like to give a huge thanks to all of our outside sponsors who have made our success possible: Absolute Bikes, located in Salida, Colo.; SLV Brewery, Kristi Mountain Sports, and Specialized Bikes.
