Flexibility is what allows your joints and body parts to perform their full range of motion.  People do not realize it, but flexibility is used in every day life and activities. Flexibility helps with the simple tasks such as bending, walking, and lifting. By being flexible, this allows your body to be mobile. The down side is as people age, their flexibility decreases. This is a natural process. The muscles become stiffer because they lose their strength and size. That is why it is crucial to implement flexibility exercises in your exercise routine.
A main reason that muscles lose their natural suppleness is because people are inactive. People that are inactive are much more prone to tears, aches, and pains as a result. The loss of tissues elasticity is what causes the muscles and the joints to tighten up, thus losing flexibility. It can be scary to think that this is a natural process, but there is something we can do to preserve our flexibility. We must be active daily and include flexibility exercises to maintain the strength and the elasticity in our tissue.
Flexibility helps decrease the risk of injury and will increase your physical performance. The more flexible your joints are the less energy it requires to move through tougher conditions. An advantage of being flexible is it helps increase the blood and nutrients to the tissue. This also helps the blood circulation. It is important to stretch because it helps to decrease the resistance in the muscle. Another positive of stretching is it helps relax the muscles. This is because your pelvic muscles, hamstrings, hip flexors, and quadriceps are being strengthened. Since they are being strengthened, there is less stress to your lower back.
