On the strength of league-leading third and fourth NCAA Championships national qualifiers, Adams State junior Indira Spence (Trelawny, Jamaica) has been named as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Women’s Track Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week, conference officials announced Wednesday.
Not only has Spence qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in three events, but she’s posted automatic qualifying times in each. Already qualified in the 60 meter hurdles and 200 meter dash, Spence equaled the Division II leading time in 60 meters with a time of 7.41 seconds (7.41 altitude adjusted) at the Univ. of New Mexico Classic.
Spence finished second overall in the 60 meter dash, behind only 2010 World Indoor Championships bronze medalist Carmelita Jeter.
She would also team up with junior Lindsey Grasmick sophomore Alyssa Guy and junior KayMarie Jones to achieve a provisional qualifying time of 3:58.98 in the 4×400 meter relay.
After entering the season at No. 5 according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association (USTFCCCA) National Team Rankings, the Grizzly women continue to hold that same spot in the organization’s third poll of the season.
ASC has amassed 115.10 points in the poll, up 1.31 points from last week. The poll, which has taken into account both past season’s performances and data from the current season so far, will no longer use past data after this week.
Grand Valley State (Mich.) continues to hold the top spot with 294.06 points, followed distantly by Ashland (Ohio) at No. 2 with 160.81 points, though both have lost more than 10 points since week two. Nebraska-Omaha and Lincoln (Mo.), with 154.59 and 145.63 points, respectively, fill out the four spots ahead of the Grizzlies.
