Orediggers Overtake Grizzlies in Final Home Game

The Adams State Grizzly football team fell in their final home contest of the season this past Saturday. The Grizzlies hosted the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers for senior day, but were unable to come up with the victory, losing 45-10.
ASU struck first in the game on a 40 yard field goal by freshman Logan Beck. However, the Grizzlies were unable to score again until the fourth quarter.
The Orediggers scored 24 points in the first half. They put up a touchdown on a short three yard pass in the first quarter, followed by 5 yard and 8 yard touchdown passes in the second quarter. They also added a 50 yard field goal in the second quarter to make the score 24-3 at halftime.
Mines added 21 more points in the second half. In the third quarter they had a one yard scamper for a touchdown and a long 49 yard touchdown run. They added another rushing touchdown in the fourth, this time from two yards out.
Adams State scored their only touchdown of the day late in the fourth quarter. Freshman quarterback Auston Hillman connected with junior Drew Edwards for 22 yards and the touchdown. Beck’s point after attempt was good. However, the Grizzlies were unable to score again, ending the contest 45-10 in favor of Mines.
On the day, Hillman threw for 170 yards and rushed for an additional 39 yards. Junior Justin Kauffman contributed 35 rushing yards. Junior Denzel McCullem led the ASU receivers, racking up 50 yards in four catches.
Defensively, the Grizzlies were led by senior Dylan Flannery who recorded one interception and nine solo tackles. Seniors Taylor Mouser and Delano Cook each contributed a sack.
The Grizzlies also said goodbye to 16 seniors before Saturday’s game. Flannery, Mouser, Cook, Eddie Stanley, Chris Jamison, Cody Davies, Oscar Murray, Nathan Wiggins, Vince Coach, Grant Haggard, Chris McGee, Puncho Aiono, Nate Johnson, Dante Moses, Cedric Stewart, and Valentino Dressler were all honored for their contributions to the team over their time here at Adams State.
Next the Grizzlies get set for their final contest of the 2013 season. Over the weekend they travel to Grand Junction to take on the 5-5 overall Colorado Mesa University Mavericks. The contest kicks off at noon. Fans who cannot travel to the game can listen live on KSPK radio.
