The renovation is finished, and the new remodeled McDaniel Hall is open for business. For a year the faculty and students at Adams State has been waiting for the newly remodeled building to be finished. The old Education and Social Science (ESS) was rebuilt and funded by students to complete the 11.4 million dollar project that was approved four years ago.
For over a year McDaniel Hall was completely gutted and renovated to make it more welcoming for students and incorporate the latest teaching technology. Students and Faculty are no long having classes all over the campus, or having search all over campus to find professors with no office. The reopening of McDaniel Hall was a welcomed one. While students were still on vacation, faculty and staff moved into their new offices and started to get settled in the new McDaniel Hall. For the past year, some professors worked out of the dorm rooms in Connor hall, and others located in the extra study rooms in the library.
Dr. Roberds, a government professor, was located on the Second Floor of the Library for the past year, “I like it. It’s more open and has more space. The only thing I might have changed was the class room sizes. There are a lot of small classes and not enough larger ones. The designer of the building did not think about the long term when it came to enrollment of new students.”
The new building is filled with open windows, to give the illusion of it being bigger and more open. The offices are more inviting and leaving nothing to the imagination. The employees at the AITC office on the west end of McDaniel Hall gets to see everything. With chairs in the hallway outside the office, students have embraced the new building. “I think the building is ten times better than the old one and I only hope that everyone does their part to take care of it.”
“It’s a great building but students need to grow up, the building is great for ASC to grow but staff and students aren’t apperceive and aren’t use to change. Even though the building is ten times better it still isn’t good enough, “ said a student.
“It’s nice, but the classrooms are too small, I feel like they down sized the class size to add office space, and it wasn’t a good idea. The color scheme doesn’t make sense, some walls are blue, and other red. The stairs on the second floor with big steps seem a little dangerous I saw a professor fall down them.” Shuvon
“I like it, its how college is suppose to look like. I like the bear on the second floor. The tables in the classrooms are convenient, but the desks in the auditorium are too small.” ASC student Talisha said.
“The second floor stairs are dangerous I almost fell, and the building is over rated” said another student
“Second floor computer area is not logical to sit at, there is not leg room, to sit comfortable” Josh
“It’s to formal before it felt like home, I could lay down on the couches and take a nap, now it feels like a hospital,” said Frank another student.
“ I feel like I’m on a ship or something, very contemporary,” said another student Gabrielle.
