COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Adams State freshman goalkeeper Michael Miller (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) has become the first Grizzly men’s soccer player to earn all-conference recognition as a member of the All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Third Team, it was announced Wednesday.
Miller becomes the first ASC men’s player to be named as an All-RMAC performer in program’s 3-year history.
Miller took over the starting gig as the Grizzlies’ goalie from the beginning of the season and had a record-setting season. His three wins this season are an Adams State single season and career record, one of which included the only shutout in program history when the Grizzlies topped Texas-Permian Basin, 4-0, on Sept. 9.
He was also the keeper of record for ASC’s RMAC victories against Colorado Christian and their 1-1 tie in double overtime against UC-Colorado Springs, the first win or tie against a league team other than CCU.
Additionally, Miller established the Grizzly career and season record with 109 saves as a rookie, and his 14 saves against Regis on Oct. 9 ranks second in single-game history for the Grizzlies. His 1,409 minutes played this season is the third most in program history.
The Grizzlies’ historic season concluded this past Sunday as ASC fell, 3-1, against 3rd-ranked Fort Lewis in their season finale. Adams State tied the game at a goal apiece in the 80th minute, but the RMAC Champion Skyhawks scored two in the final 10 minutes of play for the win. Miller made six saves in the match.
Earlier this season, junior Raul Sanchez (Alliance, Neb.) and redshirt-freshman Johnny Mercer (Longmont, Colo.) made history as the Grizzlies’ first two Academic All-RMAC honorees. Sanchez was a second team selection while Mercer was named to the honor roll.
