Adams State’s EARTH Group cordially invites you to ASU’s Volunteer Recruitment Fair on September 18th. We will be selling baked goods to raise funds to help with varying projects, including campus recycling and education.
We will also be recruiting volunteers for ASU Cares Day on Sat, Sept. 21st where we will be facilitating two projects, including a Rio Grande Clean Up and Recycling. The EARTH booth will be set up between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on September 18th at the Japanese-American Memorial Garden, located just west of McDaniel.
EARTH or Environmental Action for Resources, Transportation, and Health is Adams State’s organization focused on sustain ability efforts. We’re a grassroots group of ASU faculty, students, staff, and Alamosa community members interested in making our campus and our community more sustainable and eco friendly.
I see our group as important on two level.
First of all we are trying to spread awareness of environmental issues, both global and local, to the members of our community. We do this by bringing in speakers, showing videos on campus, and hosting events on campus such as “Catch recyclers green handed”, “bring your own bottle recycling hoops contest”, EARTH themed Talent and Art Shows, and our annual EARTH Week.
Secondly we actually do something positive for our campus and community. With help from Administration and Facilities, we run the recycling program on campus. We are starting a Campus Community Garden on east campus where students, or anyone who lives in dorms/apartments, could have a garden space on campus where they can grow some healthy veggies.
We are also working on bringing glass recycling to campus. We have helped with bringing tray-less dining to the cafeteria and the “Green Bikes” program to campus. We have several subgroups within EARTH including transportation, local foods, water, energy, and outreach; and are always looking for more folks to help with these subcommittees. If you’re interested in helping with these issues please join the group!
We have a meeting on the first Tuesday of each month, at noon on the in the Student Life Center of the SUB on campus. We would love to get more folks involved from all over campus — we need your help to make ASU campus a better place!
