Jonathan Andujar is one of the eighteen ASC theater students attending the RMTA (Rocky Mountain Theatre Association) “It’s a competition we go to every year where we participate in acting competitions as well as attend acting workshops. There is also a chance to get summer employment with theatres throughout the rocky mountain area. There is a showcase each night and this year our show is Children of a Lesser God,” says Andujar. RMTA is a great forum to show the talent of the ASC theatre department.
Children of a Lesser God played for one evening on Saturday, February 6 as part of a fundraiser for the weeklong trip. Tickets were priced at five dollars. “The Children of a Lesser God fundraiser went well. The audience was absolutely amazing. It’s always good to know they’re enjoying the show.” Jon talks about his overall experience with Children of a Lesser God: “It has been an amazing experience! Watching the leads, David Trudeau and Brittney Chowning, learn that much sign language in a short amount of time and picking it back up again was incredible. There is so much hard work and passion put in by everyone. From the long rehearsals, to our incredible crew our amazing light and sound technicians and the directing of Dr. Taylor. I can’t mention this show without mentioning Peggy Filer, professor of deaf studies here at ASC. She worked closely with the cast making sure everyone got their signing down right. Children of a Lesser God was an extraordinary show that showcased not only our strength as a department, but as a tight knight community with other departments around campus.”
The ASC theatre department has two productions in the works. The plays Sleeping Beauty and Henry Flamethrowa are scheduled to run February 23 through the 27.
