Adams State indoor track and field athlete Indira Sprence has been named as the ASCGrizzlies.com Athlete of the Week award for the week ending Feb. 27.
Spence was a triple-winner at the RMAC Championships winning the 60 and 200-meter dashes and the 60-meter hurdles, all in Cushing Fieldhouse record times (breaking her own 2008 records). She also broke her own 2010 RMAC Championship meet record time in the 60-meter hurdles. In addition to that she was named as the RMAC Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year.
The ASCGrizzlies.com Athlete of the Week award, which will be handed out weekly, was selected by a vote of media members and ASC athletic administrators as well as by visitors to the Grizzly website, who could cast their vote in an online poll.
Senior Vera Jo Bustos of the women’s basketball team, who won the online vote as she garnered 39.5 percent of the 86 votes that were cast, finished in second overall.
Spence got seven of the eight first place votes and finished in third overall in the online vote with 17.4 percent of the votes. Deray Wilson was second in the online vote with 18.6 percent finished fourth.
Other nominees were junior Rebecca Lindquist of the softball team, Kenny Jordan of the wrestling team, Chanson Miller of the Men’s lacrosse team, Wesley Lavong of the men’s indoor track team, and Brandon Lutz of the junior varsity basketball team.
