Alicia Nelson
Adams State College sophomore women’s track and field athlete Alicia Nelson (Craig, Colo.) has been named as the ASCGrizzlies.com Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 15.
Nelson qualified in two events for the Grizzlies. Nelson would beat her own record as she posted an automatic qualifying time of 10:10.89 in the 3,000m steeplechase, which would be good enough for sixth place at the Mt. SAC Relays. This is the second fastest time ever run in DII. Her efforts would keep her atop the national performance list. In the 5,000m run, she recorded a provisional qualifying time of 16:37.60, which ranks her at eighth in DII this season.
The ASCGrizzlies.com Athlete of the Week is awarded each week during the school year, and is selected by a vote of media members, ASC athletics administrators, and visitors to ASCGrizzlies.com who cast their votes in the on-line fan poll.
Senior softball player Lizzy Schossow (Fort Morgan, Colo.) won the on-line fan vote, taking in 59.5 percent of the 185 votes cast.
Other nominees for this week’s award were senior men’s track and field athlete Drew Graham (Newcastle, England), sophomore men’s lacrosse player Anthony Damico (Littleton, Colo.), sophomore women’s lacrosse player LiErin Wilson (Silverton, Colo.), freshman women’s golfer Maressa McClintock (Centennial, Colo.), and junior men’s golfer Andrew Kennedy (Casper, Wyo.).
