Alicia Nelson
Women’s Track and Field
Adams State sophomore women’s track and field athlete Alicia Nelson (Craig, Colo.) has been named the ASCGrizzlies.com Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 8.
Nelson posted an automatic qualifying time in the 3,000m steeplechase at the Don Kirby Memorial Invitation in Albuquerque, N.M. on March 6-7. She posted a time of 10:31.03 (10:14.66 adjusted) which was good enough for a first place finish at the meet. Nelson finished more than 20 seconds ahead of her nearest opponent and was four seconds under the stadium record. Her qualifying time leads the nation.
The ASCGrizzlies.com Athlete of the Week, which is awarded each week during the school year, was selected by a vote of media members, ASC athletics administrators, and visitors to ASCGrizzlies.com who cast their votes in the on-line fan poll.
Nelson received first place votes from each media member and administrator. Freshman women’s golfer Rachel Dyess (Richmond, Texas) led the fan voting, taking in 36.9 percent of the 244 votes cast. Freshman men’s golfer Scott Patrick (Canon City, Colo.) came in second place with 29.1 percent.
Other nominees for this week’s award were sophomore men’s track and field athlete Tabor Stevens (Canon City, Colo.), sophomore men’s lacrosse player Bryden Pelletier (Lantzvile, B.C., Canada), sophomore women’s lacrosse player LiErin Wilson (Silverton, Colo.), and freshman softball player Morgan McWilliams (Edgewood, N.M.).
