ASU Xperimental Percussion Theatre Happens April 15 & 16

ALAMOSA (April 8) – Taking the music listening experience to another level – the Adams State University Music Department presents the ASU Xperimental Percussion Theatre at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 15 and Wednesday, April 16, in the Xperimental Theatre, located in the Theatre Building.
This multi-sensory experience, directed by James Doyle, assistant professor of music, will feature music by Bergamo, Cangelosi, Crumb, Mey, Xenakis, and works by the Adams State Percussion Program. Both evening events, a collaboration between the Music, Art, and Theatre Departments, will include frame drums, vocal recitation, strobe lights on steel brushes, and three people playing on a table, light design, and video. Claire Van der Plas, assistant professor of art, sent sculptures created by art students to Doyle. His students improvised percussion music inspired by the sculptures and sent the music back which was then used to create a video from the soundtrack. As these videos play – the percussion students, during the Percussion Theatre, will improvise a new soundtrack. Tickets are free to Friends of Music and AS&F members; and $1 for students and $5 for adults.
