Entering their twentieth year at Adams State, The Bonfils Blood Drive has seen an average of 30 donors per year.
This year, Bonfils had 38 donors donating blood including students and staff of Adams State College. Tiffany Anderson, the Director of Marketing and Communications, said, “There will be two Blood Drives at Adams State, because there is not a blood donation center in Alamosa.” So, if the students and staff were not able to sign up for the first blood drive, there is still one more this year.
Each donor who donates helps out one to three people who are in the U.S. Military and in hospitals in Alamosa as well as the other 49 states in the U.S. Bonfils travels to high schools and colleges around Colorado each year to collect blood donations. Some of their stops include the University of Colorado, Adams State College, Colorado University of Denver, and Colorado State University of Pueblo. Each person can donate once every two months, which averages out to six times per year.
Donors cannot contract HIV/AIDS by donating blood.
The Bonfils Blood Drive has been at Adams State College since 1991, when they had 30 donors. Between the years 2008 to 2011, they had eight blood drives at Adams State. The sign up sheets do not usually get filled up, but this year at ASC, the entire sign up sheet was completely filled up and the nurses on hand for the blood drive were very excited. For the next drive, they want the sign up sheet to filled up again.
