The Associated Students and Faculty of Adams State College held its first quarterly meeting of the semester on Monday, September 27, and announced the plans for changes to next year’s academic calendar in addition to approving requested funding from an assortment of clubs and organizations.
Wrapping up the only piece of old business, Ken Marquez, Dean of Student Affairs, announced that the fall schedule of days off in 2011 will include adding an additional day to fall break, making it a four day weekend. It is unknown at this time if that extra day off will come at the expense of the Day of Reflection or if there will simply be one less day of classes. Thanksgiving break will remain as it currently is, with three days off during the calendar week, plus the following weekend to total five days off.
During the portion of the meeting dedicated to the approval or denial of requested funds to an assortment of clubs and organizations around campus, none of the groups who requested funding from AS&F were left empty handed. However, not all the groups who came before AS&F were granted all the money they requested.
Liz Bosworth, representing the ASC Cares Day Committee, asked for and was granted $950 for costs associated with ASC Cares Day.
The Model U.N. asked for $9333 to fund a trip to participate in a conference in either Singapore or Scotland. They were granted $7233.
Robin Pryor, an ASC student and a representative for the United States Student Association, asked for and was granted $1000 to represent ASC and the Associated Students of Colorado at six different Board of Directors meetings throughout the year.
The group Adams Atoms was granted $3445 to attend an ACS National Conference in Anaheim, CA in March 2011 to present research projects.
The Adams State Adventure Program (ASAP), represented by Rob Warden, was granted $652 in order for four of the professional staff members of ASAP to attend an Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education Conference (AORE) in Keystone, CO.
Brianne Johnson, the Residence Director of the High-Rise Apartments, and Charlotte Ledonne, from the San Luis Valley Area Health Education Center, asked for $4320.75 for various expenses related to World AIDS Awareness Week late in the fall semester and were granted $1728.
Evan Slagsvold, the Coordinator of Intramural Club Sports, requested and was granted $425 for the purpose of assisting the travel and camp expenses of the men’s and women’s rugby clubs, and the climbing club.
The ASC Drumline was granted $1104.50 for expenses related to the support of the football team at all remaining in-state home games during the 2010 season.
Joe Kelso, representing the Newman Club, asked for $316.40 and was granted $834.40 for the purpose of covering the expenses related to a trip to a retreat in Crestone, CO during the weekend of Oct. 22-24.
The ASC Hip Hop/Step Club did not ask for funding but instead to receive recognition by AS&F as an active club, and their bill asking for recognition passed.
The next quarterly meeting for AS&F will be held on Nov. 22 at 6 p.m.
