ALAMOSA (April 14) – Students enrolled in Adams State University Boettcher Teacher Residency program (BTR) spent an afternoon, in early April, with regional superintendents and principals receiving advice on applying for positions and the interview process. According to Stephanie Hensley, Adams State BTR field director, this is the second year the panel discussion was held on the Adams State campus. “We want our cohorts to be prepared and confident when it comes to seeking a position in the academic market.”
The first Adams State BTR cohort graduates during the Graduate Spring 2015 Commencement, on May 16. “We are very pleased to see our first BTR cohort graduate. Those students are currently teaching in Alamosa, Center, and Monte Vista.
BTR prepares individuals to have exceptional teaching careers in Colorado’s highest needs schools through a hands-on master’s degree program. Residents graduate with master’s degrees in education, an alternative teaching license and a culturally and linguistically diverse endorsement.
Following commencement, in May, Adams State will host a state-wide Boettcher Teacher Residency Symposium and Licensure on campus. Graduate students in the program from Denver, the Durango and La Junta areas, as well as the San Luis Valley are invited to attend. The symposium will include break-out sessions and keynote speakers for professional development.
According to Hensley, those cohorts who have fulfilled their five-year service agreement will be recognized and those who have completed the residency year will receive the alternative licensure during a ceremony at the symposium.
Along with BTR cohorts, invitations will be extended to mentors and administrators who partner with the Boettcher Teacher Residency program.
